For those of you who know me, you know that I’m a city girl. Born and raised in Atlanta, GA. When we moved to Columbia, SC for Michael to begin seminary, I thought that was a small town. Well, now we are in rural east TN. It has been a big adjustment. Now to my fellow east Tennesseeians, please don’t take offense. We really enjoy living here, and we love “you-uns.” Our number one complaint is that, no matter how long our grocery list is, we will never make it home with everything we need. This is why we stockpile in the basement. Thank goodness the parsonage has an extra fridge and full size freezer down there as well. But the point of this post is to let our city folk know…WE’VE BEEN COUNTRIFIED!!! Here is how we spent Saturday afternoon:
Shuckin' corn!
AJ’s first ear was a little odd. It had a few HUGE kernels including this MONSTER one. Michael broke it open and it was all brown inside. He said it was dirt, but I don’t think so.
Then the next ear she picked up was this tiny one, she kept going, “Aaawwww! It’s a baby one.” With her very southern drawl. (Where did that come from for this Yankee-born child!?!)
Later that evening the youth group went fishin'.
AJ didn’t fish, DJ and I didn’t catch anything, but Michael caught three. This was the final and biggest. (The first one fit in the palm of his hand.)
ETA: all fish were thrown back in!
